Sting – Sword of Bilbo Baggins: Small enough to be considered a knife by the elves who made it, Sting was the perfect size for a hobbit’s short sword. As such, Bilbo claimed it as his when it was found in a troll hoard. The sword is enchanted to glow blue in the presence of orcs.

Glamdring – Sword of Gandalf the Grey: This two-handed sword was found by Gandalf in the trolls’ cave along slide the blades Sting and Orcrist. The sword is also known as Foe-hammer (the translation of the Sindarin word glamdring) or Beater (as it is known by the orcs). Like Sting, it will glow blue when orcs are present.

Orcrist – Sword of Thorin Oakenshield: The translation of this Sindarin name is “goblin cleaver” but is known by the name Biter by the goblins. It was also imbued with the power to detect the presence of orcs and glowed blue as a warning. It was originally intended to be the “mate” to the sword Glamdring.
